Visioning
Every company talks of their vision, it's generally understood to be what the company sees as the ultimate picture of the world.
In a visioning exercise, the goal is to align everyone around the intent of the effort of the whole group. Often leadership will reinforce what everyone is there to do, as a whole, together, but if the group can do this it’s even better.
Visioning can be done on a whiteboard, or virtual area, but mostly is it about bringing everyone to the same understanding of where the team wants to go. It's the equivalent of everyone agreeing on where they want to go on a road trip and mapping out the route together.
What do they want to see on the road ahead, what are their expectations? What stops along the way do they want to make or is the crowd more of a 'we are making good time' and not stopping at all?
Visioning is an essential exercise in bringing everyone together, it's one way we begin to start a transformation in an organization. If everyone has a solid idea of what they will see along the way, and more importantly they agree to it as a team, that's the first step in building cohesion.
